About Playa Carrillo
Seven kilometers south of Samara, Carrillo offers a smaller, less developed feel without sacrificing convenience. Learn more about our charming neighbor to the south.
One of Costa Rica’s most beautiful beaches and cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Playa Carrillo is just south of Samara. Known for its pristine, undeveloped beach, once you get here, you’ll never want to leave. Palm trees line the beach from start to finish and are part of picture perfect views whether looking towards the ocean or back at the mountain. At the far end of the beach is the port - the launch site of local fishing boats, water tours and one of the best spots to catch the sun setting into the ocean. With the waves generally soft and small, Playa Carrillo is the perfect place to enjoy a day of swimming and paddleboarding or relaxing on the beach under the palms. Keep an eye on the sky for the scarlet macaws who regularly enjoy a snack from the beach almond trees.
Just past the beach, up the hill, is the small town of Carrillo. Considerably smaller than Samara, it has all of the basics - a school, police station, restaurants and a beautiful mix of homes and people. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a quieter lifestyle without sacrificing convenience. With Samara less than 15 minutes away, you truly have it all at your fingertips!
