Whether you're planning a day trip or a longer stay, here’s how to reach this hidden gem.

Choosing Your Route to Playa Coyote

Playa Coyote is located in the province of Guanacaste, on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula. The closest significant town is San Francisco de Coyote, a small, friendly village where you’ll find a few essential amenities. Most visitors to Playa Coyote arrive by one of four main routes: from Liberia, San José, Sámara, or Santa Teresa / Montezuma.

  • From Liberia: Liberia is the nearest major city to Playa Coyote, and it’s about a 3.5-hour drive away. With an international airport, Liberia is a convenient starting point for travelers flying in from abroad.

Or keep driving down the coastal road to make another right at “Playa Costa de Oro” to see the middle part of the beach.
